Madrigal

about

Philippe Gaubert was one of the great musicians of the French Flute School of the early 20th century, as well as a well-known composer and conductor. Gaubert has composed a wide variety of instrumental, orchestral and vocal music, as well as two works, and it is not surprising that many of his most effective compositions are for flute.

"Madrigal" was composed in 1908, the year Gaubert's teacher Paul Taffenel died. The introduction seems to have been inspired by the famous violin sonata by César Franck, perhaps a tribute to the great French master and his work. Madrigal is one of the composer's most loved pieces and provides a brief introduction to the virtues of his numerous flute miniatures: clarity of form, the economy of means, his melody expresses a great emotional warmth that gives a great sense of peace and that transports you in other places.

Carlo Corazza along with Irene Pace performs this beautiful "Madrigal" for piano and Flute.
